    Pineapple Preserves vs. Pineapple Jam

Pineapple preserves have chunks of pineapple comparatively to a pineapple jam which is smoother. It really comes down to your preference of fruit jam texture.

Looking for an easy pineapple jam recipe?

Jar of fresh pineapple preserves on the left side and a jar of fresh pineapple jam on the right side.

    Ingredients and Substitutions

    Fresh Pineapple

Fresh sweet pineapple, especially in season will add a great fresh flavor and texture to the preserves. Frozen pineapple can be used as a substitute, make sure it’s thawed before use.

    Sugar

I prefer refined white sugar because it adds no additional color. Cane sugar or unrefined sugar can be used as a substitute.

Hand holding a butter knife that scooped out some of the preserves. Next to toast, butter, and loaf of bread.

    Flavorful Additions

Lemon Juice - Add a touch of lemon juice, the acidity helps to cut the sweetness. Fresh lemon juice is best.

Ginger - If you love ginger as much as I do, it will give the preserve a pop of flavor.

Spices - Sprinkle freshly grated nutmeg or cinnamon for a warm flavor.

Extract - Lemon extract, vanilla, or coconut for an even more tropical taste.

    Storage and Shelf Life

Make this pineapple preserves and store it in an airtight container or mason jar for up to 2- 3 months in the refrigerator.

For longer storage freeze it for up to 6 months.

    How To Use Pineapple Preserves

Homemade pineapple preserves can be used for breakfast, savory dishes, and desserts.

For breakfast spread it on toast, bagel, or scones

As a glaze for baked ham, pork chops, grilled meat, and seafood.

Add it to store-bought bbq sauce for a tropical flavor.

Have a sweet tooth, it's a great addition to thumbprint cookies and as an ice cream topping.
