With Natural Dyes and Kosher
If you are looking for a strawberry shortcake crunch recipe that has natural dyes, kosher (not pork based), and less preservatives, check out this brief process.
I used Simple Mixes brand strawberry gelatin mix and South & Spoon brand cooktop vanilla pudding mix.
This is what the mixture looks like before baking.
After baking, the recipe process and ingredient amounts are the same. Remember if you want a soft and chewy texture use ¼ of flour in each bowl and if you want a crumbly texture use ½ cup. (I used a ¼ cup when recipe testing).
The pink color is lighter but it taste so good.
Tips & Suggestions
Depending on the brand of strawberry gelatin mix used will result in a light pink or darker pink strawberry crumbles. Jello brand mix has a bright pink color similar to the traditional strawberry shortcake ice cream bars.
Add extra flavor to the vanilla crumb mixture with ½ teaspoon of almond extract.
Try not to over bake the mixture, it can easily burn because of the sugar content. If you are looking for a no bake strawberry crunch recipe, this one is super easy.
Change up the flavor and color by swapping the strawberry jello with pineapple, orange, berry blue, or lemon-lime.
Don’t skip the freezer step if making the soft and chewy version, it helps to prevent them from gumming up the food processor.
Remember if you want a soft and chewy texture use ¼ cup of flour in each bowland for crumbly texture use a ½ cup of flour to each mixture. More flour will make it less soft and chewy and more crunchy and crumbly.
