The Best White Chocolate For Strawberries

The best white chocolate for strawberries depends on your budget and how sweet you like your chocolate.

“White Chocolate” is not actually chocolate because it does not contain cocoa. Many of the premium brands of white chocolate have cocoa butter verses compound chocolate that has a larger percent of oil . You’ll see terms like white chips, wafers, or melts because of this technicality.

Almond Bark and Candy Melts

Budget friendly compound chocolate options are almond bark and candy melts. They are on the sweeter side but are so easy to melt and dip.

Dipped Strawberries Using White Candy Melts

Candy melts comes in a variety of colors and flavors, popular choices are white or bright white. If you are not wanting to color them, there are so many colors available to fit your sweet vision.

It’s so easy to melt in the microwave, dip, and place on a parchment paper to set.

How To Add Color Candy Melts and Almond Bark

When coloring candy melts or almond bark, you will need an oil based food coloring. The brand above is from Wilton and called Candy Colors. Do not use gel or water based food coloring, the chocolate will seize up and become clumpy.

Melt the candy melts or bark as directed on the package. Add a very tiny drop and mix with a spoon, mix and add more if needed.

Premium White Chocolate

The best white chocolate has cocoa butter which imparts a sweet creamy taste. You’ll find actual white chocolate typically in a bar. Popular premium brands are Ghirardelli, Lindt, and Baker’s. There are other great options from these brands including melting wafers and chips.

Ghirardelli wafers and chips do not have cocoa butter, but is very popular with professional candy treat makers. It melts easily, has a nice white color, and taste great. I always have baking chips on hand in my pantry for melting and cookies.

How To Add Color To White Chocolate

If you want to add a hint of color, less is more when it comes to coloring white chocolate. When using an oil based candy coloring put a very small drop at a time into the melted chocolate mixture. Mix well and then add more if needed.

How To Prep Strawberries Before Dipping Them

Rinse the strawberries in a water and vinegar mixture. Dry them with paper towels and let them dry completely on the paper towels.

Since water and chocolate do not mix well, very dry and room temperature strawberries are best.

2 Ways To Melt White Chocolate

The easiest and most convenient way to melt white chocolate is in the microwave on the defrost setting. You can start melting at about 30 seconds remove and mix. Intervals at 10-15 until fully melted and smooth is best for dipping.

The other popular method is using double boiler on the stovetop. Fill a saucepan a ¼ of the way with water and bring to a simmer and reduce to low heat. Place a stainless steel mixing bowl over it, then add the white chocolate and stir until completely melted.

How To Thin Out Melted Chocolate

When melting premium white chocolate or compound chocolate it can be thick at times. To thin it out for easier melting and dipping add a teaspoon of coconut oil, EZ Thin, vegetable shortening or oil
